Towards the end of our 2nd day trip through the Highlands we stopped in a little town called Kyleakin Bay for a short break. The town had an inlet and a stunning view of the water and an ancient castle called Caisteal Maol, that was crumbling on the shore. I was captivated by the way the receding waters brought out the rich ochre tones of the silt under the water and gave a captivating view of a boat that was moored there and the distant view of the crumbling castle. It felt moody and very reminiscent of other sights we had seen over the days during our trip to Scotland, and I wanted to capture that moment in a painting to admire and inspire any viewer who would also see it.
